Bouldering in Turahalli, Bangalore
Fly to Bangalore – Tiger Airways flies there for about $300 SGD (sourced from www.tigerairways.com on 4 Dec 09).
How to Get to Turahalli
Once you arrive in Bangalore, try to get accommodation in the south-west of the city. Bangalore is notoriously difficult to navigate if you are a foreigner and not many outsiders have the stomach to try out the bus system. Even if you do manage to figure out the bus system, it will still take about one and a half hours to reach if you stay just 20km away.
Turahalli is located off Karnakapura Road, (behind Gubalala Village) one of 8 main arterial roads that lead into Bangalore Central. It is recommended that you stay anywhere between Bannerghatta Road and Sarjapur Road, which are the western and southern arterial roads. Anywhere out of these areas and you should be prepared for long travelling times.
The best way to get around for foreigners is taxi. You can book a taxi in blocks of 2hour, 20km, 4hour, 40 km and 8 hour, 80km. The prices are 250 rupees, 450 rupees and 950 rupees respectively. Its considered expensive by local standards, but compared to our friendly comfort taxis in Singapore, its quite a steal (30 rupees = 1 SGD). How these booking blocks work is that if you take the 8 hour block, the taxi will stay with you and bring you wherever you want to go, as long as you stay within the 80km, 8 hour limit. Any excess and you will be charged accordingly.
