SCA Climbing Outreach Program (pilot) - 23 Apr with HCI

Here at SCA, we believe that to grow our sport, it is necessary to introduce more schools to our lovely sport. Only when we have a critical mass of students participating in Sports Climbing, can we make SSC look-up and see that Sports Climbing is a growing sport that is worth supporting, and promoting.

Ok, enough with the propaganda! What SCA basically did, was to do an introductory workshop with Hwa Chong International (Junior College). In the short 3 hours,

1. We taught basic stretches specific to climbing
2. Basic movement and technique
3. Introduction to the Rules and Regulations pertaining to a bouldering competition
4. A PPT presentation of a 1 year climbing roadtrip about climbing outdoors

We are glad that at the end of the 3hrs, the students from HCI learned more about what climbing is about, and hopefully, SCA generated the spark of climbing in them.  Perhaps we’ll see more students from HCI taking part in the climbing competitions in 2011?
